Faculty wiki…

Posted by dashby on April 16, 2009

At Griffin MS, we have created a faculty wiki.
Communication: This wiki is designed for easier communication accross teams, grade levels, content areas, etc. Each team can keep their notes and minutes on this wiki. Elective teachers can view these pages and be kept in the loop as to what is going on in other content areas.

Calendars:  We can also keep a calendar of tests, major projects, and parent teacher conferences.

Collaboration:  Anyone can edit anything inside this wiki.  There is also a ‘comment section’ on each page so other teachers can make comments, suggestions, etc.

Easy notification:  Since this is a private wiki RSS programs will not work.  But there is a small sidebar that shows which pages have been updated recently.

Endless possibilities:  The ways we use this wiki are only limited by our own imaginations.  This is our wiki and we can use it and make it work however we choose.

Ideas for podcasting

Posted by dashby on March 23, 2009

Foreign Language:  Taget Language Speaker tells a story(probably short).  Than asks questions at the end of the recording or questions are posted in the blog, probably in the learners’ own language.  Then students answer question via comments in the target language.

Social Studies…Students:

  • oral histories
  • interviews
  • reenactments of historical events.

Science:

  • lab narration
  • narrate a disection
  • narrate experiments to record processes

Music:  record weekly recitals or special performances

All Teachers could record things about their lessons/concepts and store them on a blog for students who missed class or just want a refresher.

Art – Tours of art displays narrated by the artists

CPS makes teachers more effective…

Posted by dashby on February 17, 2009

CPS can help teachers become uber-effective and here’s how…

- Activities, quizes, asessments, & games without Grading = time saved = time to prepare better lessons

- Response Data collection and report generating – Teachers can enjoy the information gained from grading without actually grading

- TEKS can be assigned to each question for more detailed perfomance analysis.

- Multiple tests/test versions can be given at one time.

- Teachers and students can see responses immediately creating more time for re-teaching, not to mention more effective re-teaching

- Places a tool in each student’s hand, making it simple to engage everyone in the class.

- Teacher paced mode; Student paced mode  = better classroom management & student centered learning

- All activities and results are saved for later retrieval
